To my dear customers - a serious note from me this evening:
I want to be able to move about freely - not having to worry about an active shooter on the streets or at the grocery store or at a neighborhood school.
I want to buy books and to sell books and walk along the beach near my house. I know you're frustrated and worried too!
America should be free from the recent terror of gun violence.
I've written letters to my congressman and senators asking them to work on passing laws for necessary background checks and to ban assault rifles - because enough is enough!
Please consider also writing to your elected officials - because we're in this together!

Explanation below:
“The New York International Antiquarian Book Fair (NYIABF) – officially sanctioned by Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America (ABAA) and International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) and produced by Sanford L. Smith + Associates – regrets to announce that the fair, set for September at the Park Avenue Armory, has been cancelled due to growing concerns of Covid-19 and the Delta variant.
Originally set for September 9-12, the NYIABF is known for a robust, international roster of exhibitors. This year, many of the fair’s European dealers were not able to join due to the United States travel ban and, more recently, the fair received cancellations from a significant number of American booksellers and was left with no choice but to cancel.
Serious message from me today: I really enjoy being an exhibitor at the great book fairs in Los Angeles and San Francisco, bringing (aka schlepping) my rare, collectible books and ephemera to show my customers what I’m interested in and what I feel is important to the history of Gastronomy and the world of Printing and Fine Books.
Of course, virtual book fairs are fantastic and popular video platforms are a terrific way to communicate but, we will not go back to “normal” if we don’t get control of this pandemic!
The Book Club of California has posted the link to YouTube for my presentation on Vintage Restaurant Menus, "Yesterday's Specials". Runs about 1 hour, 19 mins. - 95 slides!
